Today marks a very big day; The end of a 6+ month project, over 2 years’ worth of planning, and a whole lot of elbow grease, sleepless nights, and endless decisions. The Michaud boys showed up this morning with their coffee cups, a random assortment of stuff to tiddy up loose ends, and an empty pickup bed. By the middle the afternoon, the rest of the siding was buttoned up, the punch list checked off, their pickup bed loaded with tools, and our house ready to say goodbye to its faithful creators and hello to its new inhabitants.
What else can I say, then that Jerry and Mike have been absolutely incredible! I mean… Look what I’ve been forced to deal with over the past several months.
In that time they’ve gone from being two of the most hard-working/talented men that I’ve ever known to some absolutely incredible friends who didn’t just take this job on to build a beautiful house, but immersed themselves in the idea and reality of building the perfect home for someone with some very real life challenges. In that time, they made it their priority to make me a part of the job, on the first day building a ramp so that I could get up on the concrete slab and be a part of the framing, right to the countless times they helped get me unstuck from the mud, load up my hand brace so that I could eat breakfast, or even fix my wheelchair/van when it wouldn’t work right. They moved doorways, they moved walls, they flattened/built-up concrete slabs, they crawled through narrow attic spaces to pull wires I had forgot… they just did with a smile on their face just because they knew it would make my life easier. I could go on and on about how wonderful this experience has been (and undoubtably will), but wanted to take this opportunity to give a special thank you to the Michaud’s for a job well done.
Thanks guys!
At the end of the day mom asked me if I was sad to see them go, and honestly all I could think was not one bit! I’m sad that the job is over, and that I have to go back to reality, but how could I be sad to know that I now have two more incredible friends.
Other contractors! I feel much the same about you, but today was my last day of seeing these two guys I’ve hung out with for the better part of half a year… so you’ll have to wait for your sentimental YOU’RE SO AWESOME post when I see you sometime next week.
Okay, that’s it for me now…
Great job guys!So where does the blog go from here? I'd like to get a full tour of the place (video if possible), and a wrap down of the automation and control features of your new smart house, along with why you chose those items over the competition (if there was the good, bad ugly reasons why). What automation software did you choose Etc..
Actually configuring my UPB lighting as we speak with HAI Dealer PC Access and Upstart. I'll post some screenshots an exclamation shortly.
Love the way it turned out. Still waiting eagerly to hear how you've automated this beast.
