So I’ve been thinking about how I can best design/research/blog this material and have decided to break it into smaller chunks that will hopefully be more manageable and easier to tackle.
I think I’ll probably break it down something like this…
1. Land (Survey information, pictures, siting, etc.)
2. Home (design goals, floorplan, elevations,3-D renderings, etc.)
3. Overall Architecture (vision, home automation goals, subsystems, etc.)
4. Naming Conventions (room, wires, HMI screens)
5. Pre-wire Strategy (multiple CAT6/5e per room, IR distribution, low voltage wiring)
6. Lighting Control (technology considerations)
7. HVAC (5-zone radiant slab heating)
8. Security/Occupancy (contact monitoring on windows/doors, occupancy/motion sensors)
9. Camera/Intercom System (power over ethernet outdoor cameras, IP cameras, record on motion)
10. Door Automation (commercially available options vs. designing my own electromechanical clutched door opener)
11. Electric Window Operation (24vdc Anderson operators to open/close casement and awning windows)
12. Automatic Window Shades (SOMFI Electric Shade Motors)
13. Whole House Audio/Media Distribution (Windows Media Center, 4 channel DVR, xbox 360 as extenders, 20+ TB Media Server)
14. Whatever else we come up with
